FAQs & Troubleshooting

Why is the magnet running warm or hot? "Power to Lock" devices like magnetic locks require constant power, which generates some heat. However, excessive heat is usually caused by:

  1. Voltage Mismatch: The magnet is set to 12V DC but is connected to a 24V DC power supply.
  2. Insufficient Amperage: The power supply isn't providing enough current, causing the magnet to run hot.
  3. Voltage Drop: A long cable run with an inadequate wire gauge can reduce the current reaching the magnet, causing it to heat up.

Why is the armature plate vibrating? This is typically caused by a faulty or underrated power supply, or by running a 24V DC magnet on a 12V DC power supply.

Why won't the magnet lock properly? The most common reasons are:

  1. Misalignment: The armature plate is not correctly aligned with the magnetic lock.
  2. Power Issues: The power supply is faulty, underrated, or providing the incorrect voltage (e.g., 12V for a 24V magnet).

Technical & Installation Tips

  • Voltage Selection: Before powering on, always verify that the wiring connections match your selected power supply (12V or 24V). Failure to do so can cause the lock to overheat or fail, potentially damaging the entire system.
  • Maintenance: Periodically clean the surfaces of the magnet and armature plate with a light oil to ensure optimal performance.

Consider whether you need mounting brackets for your installation.
