Access Control Systems FAQs
Finding the right security setup for your building can raise plenty of questions. With over 16 years of hands-on installation experience, our team has compiled this helpful guide to address the most common queries about our access control systems.
System Components and Features
What components are included in your access control systems?
A complete setup requires several working parts to secure a door effectively. Our full kits generally include a reader or keypad, an electronic locking mechanism, a reliable power supply, and an exit button. Depending on your specific needs, we also supply individual components like heavy-duty drop bolts for automated gates, lock releases for wooden doors, and door loops to protect vulnerable wiring.
What is the difference between standalone and PC-based systems?
The choice comes down to the size of your premises and how much control you need.
- Standalone Systems: These are perfect for securing a single door. You program all user credentials directly at the keypad or reader.
- PC-Based Systems: These connect multiple doors to a central network. You manage everything from a computer dashboard, allowing you to track user movements, set time zones, and instantly delete lost fobs across the entire building.
Should I choose proximity fobs or smart cards?
Both options use the same reliable proximity technology, so your choice depends entirely on user preference.
- Proximity Fobs: These are highly durable and attach easily to a standard keyring, making them ideal for residential tenants and gym members.
- Proximity Cards: These fit neatly into a wallet or purse. Furthermore, you can print directly onto our blank cards, allowing you to use them as visible staff ID badges in commercial offices.
Installation and Compatibility
Are your access control systems compatible with my existing doors?
Yes, you can fit our hardware to almost any existing door structure. Because our founders worked as professional installers, we supply versatile hardware and mounting brackets that adapt easily to your site. Whether you have heavy timber doors, modern UPVC frames, metal security gates, or frameless glass entrances, we have the appropriate lock releases and magnetic locks to secure them without needing to replace the physical door.
Do I need a backup battery for my system?
We strongly advise installing a backup battery. If your building loses mains power, fail-safe locks (like magnetic locks) will automatically drop power and unlock. Fitting a 12V backup battery inside your power supply cabinet ensures your access control systems remain fully operational and your building stays secure during an outage.
