FAQs & Troubleshooting

Why is the magnet running warm or hot? "Power to Lock" devices require constant power and can naturally run warm. However, excessive heat is usually caused by:

  1. Voltage Mismatch: A 12V DC magnet is being powered by a 24V DC supply.
  2. Insufficient Amperage: The power supply does not provide enough amperage, causing electrical resistance and heat.
  3. Voltage Drop: A long cable run with an inadequate wire gauge is preventing sufficient current from reaching the magnet.

Why is the armature plate vibrating? This typically points to an issue with the power supply. The cause is either a faulty/under-rated power supply or a voltage mismatch (e.g., a 24V DC magnet receiving only 12V DC).

Why won't the magnet lock properly? If the door can be pulled open easily, check the following:

  1. Misalignment: The armature plate and the magnet are not correctly aligned.
  2. Power Issues: The power supply is faulty, under-rated, or there is a voltage mismatch (e.g., a 24V DC magnet receiving only 12V DC).

Tech Tips

  • Verify Wiring: This magnetic lock supports both 12V DC and 24V DC. Before powering on, double-check that the wiring connections match your power supply's voltage. Failure to do so can cause the lock to overheat, fail to engage properly, and eventually damage the system.
  • Maintenance: To ensure optimal performance, periodically clean the surfaces of both the magnet and the armature plate with a light oil.
