Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
-
What operating system does the software use? The software is exclusively Windows-based, compatible with versions from XP to Windows 11, including Windows Server for multi-user operation. Setup is typically complete within 15 minutes. The most common configuration is a LAN connection via a router. WAN access requires port forwarding on your router, and the software can also be installed in a Cloud environment.
-
Can the software use SQL? Yes. While the software defaults to a Microsoft Database, it can be easily configured to use SQL. Instructions can be found on page 63 of the AC8000 Setup Guide.
-
Is there an extra cost or subscription for the software? No. The management software is included with the system at no extra charge, and there are no annual subscription fees.
-
Does the system monitor both entry and exit? Yes, provided you install card readers for both entry and exit points.
-
Can I build a multi-door system? Absolutely. To expand your system, simply order additional control cards and readers. Connect the new control cards to your router or hub and add them within the software. There is no limit to the number of control systems you can add.
-
Can I use a card reader instead of an exit button? Yes, you can use a card reader, an exit button, or both.
-
Are fingerprint readers compatible? Yes. The system supports fingerprint readers, and setup is very simple. Please email us for instructions.
-
What is the maximum cable distance for card readers? Card readers should be installed no more than 80-90 meters from the control board.
-
What type of cable is required? We recommend using high-quality 6 or 8-core shielded twisted-pair alarm cable, such as Belden 9536, for the best performance. Do NOT use CAT5/6 cable for card readers, as this will significantly reduce the operational distance and may cause interference.
-
Will my existing cards or fobs work with this system? It's not possible to guarantee compatibility due to the variety of card formats. Our readers are Wiegand 125kHz EM-RFID. They will not work with Mifare cards/fobs. However, if you have existing Mifare readers, the software will recognize them, allowing you to continue using your Mifare cards.
-
Where do I mount the control cards? The cards are supplied with self-adhesive pads, allowing you to easily mount them inside the power supply housing.
-
Does the PC need to be on all the time? No. The control card can store up to 100,000 transactions offline. If the memory becomes full before you download the data to your PC, it will begin overwriting the oldest transactions.
-
Can I fit a backup battery in the power supply cabinet? Yes, a backup battery can be installed. The available space will depend on the number of control cards housed within the cabinet.
