Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What operating systems does the software support? The software is Windows-based and compatible with versions from XP to Windows 11, including Windows Server for multi-user operation. Setup is quick—often under 15 minutes via an Ethernet connection.
How is the system connected? A LAN connection via a router is the most common setup for small networks. For remote access (WAN), you can connect via the internet, which requires port forwarding on your router. The software can also be hosted in the cloud.
Can the software use SQL? Yes. While it defaults to Microsoft Database, migrating to SQL is straightforward. Instructions can be found on page 63 of the AC8000 Setup Guide.
Is there an extra cost or subscription for the software? No. The software is included with the system at no extra charge, and there are no annual subscription fees.
Does the system monitor both entry and exit? Yes, provided you install card readers for both entry and exit points.
Can I create a multi-door system? Absolutely. Simply add more control cards and readers to your order. Connect the additional control cards to your router or hub and register them in the software. There is no limit to the number of control systems you can add.
Can I use a card reader instead of an exit button? Yes, you can use a card reader, an exit button, or both.
Is the system compatible with fingerprint readers? Yes. Please email us for simple instructions on how to integrate a fingerprint reader.
What is the maximum cable distance for card readers? Card readers should be installed no more than 80-90 meters from the control board.
What type of cable should I use? We recommend high-quality 6- or 8-core shielded twisted-pair alarm cable (like Belden 9536) for best results. Do not use CAT5/6 cable for card readers, as it significantly reduces operational distance and is prone to interference.
Will my existing cards or key fobs work? Our readers are Wiegand 125kHz EM-RFID readers and are not compatible with Mifare cards/fobs. However, if you already have Mifare card readers, the software will recognize them, allowing you to continue using your existing Mifare cards/fobs.
Where do the control cards get installed? The control cards are supplied with self-adhesive pads for easy installation inside the power supply unit.
Does the PC need to be on all the time? What happens if the power goes out? No, the PC does not need to be running continuously. The control card can store up to 100,000 transactions offline. If the transaction log becomes full before you download the data, it will overwrite the oldest records.
Can I fit a backup battery in the power supply cabinet? Yes, the cabinet has space for a backup battery. The number of control cards you have installed may affect the available space.
